It used to be thought that only dogs were good as guides for the visually impaired. Here is Pickles - a cat that contradicts this theory. He can do everything a good guide dog can do, and much more - he can recognize when his sitter has a seizure.

Kim Ward, 50, from the UK, survived a bus accident in 1999. Since then, she has been using a wheelchair and has had seizures. Five years ago she was hit by a cataract and she gradually took her eyes off her. It was in 2011 that Kim had an idea. Since her husband works, the woman stayed home alone all day. She decided to use her beloved cat Pickles to help. She started training guide dogs with her.

Pickles can sit down and lie down on command, find his mistress's phone and bring Kim anything she needs.

If my phone is ringing, I can't see where it is. I can still see objects, but only some textures and distinct colors. Pickles, after hearing the bell, will stand by the phone and be around there. Thanks to this, I am able to find it.

Pickles has even learned to anticipate Kim's seizures - when she senses it coming, she draws attention to herself and goes loud to warn the woman. Nobody taught her this last skill.

Pickles became not only Kim's best friend, but also her right-hand man and personal nurse.
